Thrust angle is one of the most critical measurements in any alignment, but it is especially important on a dually. The thrust angle is the direction the rear axle is pointing relative to the centerline of the vehicle. On a dually, the wider rear track amplifies even small thrust angle errors. A lot of shops do a two-wheel front-only alignment, which is inadequate for any truck but especially problematic for a dually.

This is probably the most common complaint. Dually owners come in and their front tires are wearing heavily on the inside edges. Nine times out of ten, the toe is set too far positive (toe-in), or the camber is slightly off. On a heavy truck, even a quarter degree of excess negative camber can chew through a $300-plus tire in 15,000 miles or less. We compare every measurement to the factory specs for your specific truck, year, and configuration, including whether your truck has the snow plow prep package, camper package, or other option packages that change the factory alignment specs.
We make all necessary adjustments to bring your alignment within spec. On trucks that lack sufficient factory adjustment range, we discuss options like adjustable cam bolts, offset ball joints, or other correction solutions. After adjustments, we verify all readings, road test the truck, and then recheck to make sure everything stayed where we set it.
A significant number of the dually trucks we see at Redline Auto Creations are not bone stock. Tampa truck culture is alive and well, and we see plenty of lifted dually trucks running aftermarket wheels and tires. Lifting a dually adds another layer of complexity to the alignment. A lift kit changes the suspension geometry, alters the caster and camber angles, and can change the steering axis inclination. If the lift was not installed with alignment correction in mind, or if the wrong lift components were used, you can end up with alignment angles that are physically impossible to bring back into spec without additional parts.
